United Power’s wind demonstration project in Gilpin County celebrated its first year of operation in January.
This collaborative effort between United Power (the electric co-op headquartered in Brighton), the Colorado State University Extension Office and Gilpin County was created to provide hands-on access to a typical residential generator and help answer questions about electricity production from these type of turbines.
The wind generator, located at the Gilpin County Recreation Center in Black Hawk, is a 2.1-kilowatt Skystream. You can monitor its performance at http://wind-for-schools.caesenergy.org/windforschoolsweb/gilpin.html.
