Creating Jobs, Saving Money, Reducing Pollution

WASHINGTON, DC –A bipartisan coalition of Senate and House Members were joined by rural electric cooperatives and energy industry leaders Thursday, March 11, to introduce legislation establishing a Rural Energy Savings Program to create jobs, save American families and businesses money on their electric bills, and reduce air pollution. The legislation (H.R. 4785 in the House) is estimated to create 20,000 to 40,000 jobs a year.

Collective purchase of Green Power through LPEA ranks community #12 in the U.S.

DURANGO, Colo. – The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized the community of Durango as a “Green Power Community” for its collective commitment to purchase Green Power through La Plata Electric Association (LPEA). Durango ranks #12 in the United States, and is the only community in Colorado currently recognized.

Colorado Rural Electric Association Names New Executive Director

DENVER
– After conducting a nationwide search to fill the top post for the Colorado Rural Electric Association, the board of directors has named Kent L. Singer as the new executive director to replace Ray Clifton who will be retiring in January, 2010. Singer was unanimously selected after three days of interviews with nine highly-qualified finalists from over 160 applicants. He will assume his duties on January 1, 2010.

Property taxes for 2008 amounting to $23.3 million were paid by Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Arizona, where the Denver-based wholesale power supplier owns and operates electric generation and transmission facilities.
